WELCOME TO
THE SPARK PROCESS
Grounded in Community Driven Development, Spark works with communities, governments and local organizations to catalyze sustained collective action in villages facing poverty by providing communities the resources and skills they need to design and implement a development project of their choosing -- this could mean building a school, planting crops, starting a local business, or anything else the community feels best serves their needs.
The foundation is the Spark's Facilitated Collective Action Process ("the Spark Process"), where communities are led through weekly meetings and trainings to organize, conceptualize and implement their chosen project and receive a microgrant to fund it.
The Spark Process propels collective action, not once, but continually, resulting in engaged citizens paving the road to shared prosperity.
Communities have the capacity but they lack the confidence and direction. [The Spark Process] has allowed us to shift the community...where there is unity, anything is possible" - Nana Ama, Advocates for Community Alternatives
It all Starts
with facilitation
We know that successful, sustainable development is only possible through community participation.
That's why the foundation of the Spark Process is the facilitation of community involvement. In fact, our process invests twice as much in facilitation as other methods, and we believe that's the key to Spark's success.
The Spark Process starts with the election of two Community-Based Facilitators (CBFs) - one man and one woman - in each village who are trained on the Spark Process. These facilitators lead village meetings to implement the FCAP over the course of two years.
How The Spark Process Works
The process consists of 6 key phases over the course of 2 years:
